The model is represented by a globe with four interconnected segments represented by the four characteristics: Self Insight; Self Mastery; Social Insight and Social Mastery. These characteristics underpin our emotional and social intelligence. Each of them are comprised of three capabilities within each of which are five behaviours.

The ESI profile provides tailored feedback achieved through a self assessment questionnaire and up to 12 others provide input (that they routinely engage with) collected for comparative purposes. The results are compared in the report to the norm data of the 600+ other individuals who have previously completed the ESI.

An accompanying development guide assists with formal identification of the strengths that can be leveraged and where opportunities for improvement lie such that a personal development "action plan" can be created.
