Do Not Waste Your Money on a Rebuild. Optimise What You Have.
Do not waste money on rebuild! Optimise what you have.

Every year Australian businesses spend serious money rebuilding websites that did not need rebuilding. The new site launches slower than the old one, rankings dip, tracking breaks, and leads stay flat. Nobody lied. The wrong problem got solved.

A rebuild is an easy thing to sell.

It has a clear start, a clear finish, a visible before and after, and a big number on a proposal. Everyone enjoys looking at new designs in a workshop.

Optimisation is the opposite. It is unglamorous and continuous. It means taking two seconds off a template, repairing the tracking that broke in March, and rewriting a conversion path that already exists.

It also tends to make more money, for less.

Before anyone touches a design file, ask four questions.

Is the site actually slow for real users on real phones, not on a fast laptop in the office? Is your tracking telling the truth, or are you making decisions from a dashboard that is quietly wrong? Where do people actually give up, and can you point to it? Which pages already earn their keep, and are those the ones being fixed?

If you cannot answer all four, you are not ready to commission a rebuild. You are ready for a diagnosis.

Sometimes replacing the site is genuinely right. If the platform is unsupported, the code is unsafe, or the business now sells something entirely different, rebuild it. Just make that call from evidence, not from being tired of how the homepage looks.

The risk nobody mentions in the pitch is what a migration does to what already works. Rankings you built over years. Historic data. Event tracking. All of it is on the table the day you launch.

Optimising is the lower risk path. You improve pages that already rank, already convert and already have authority, so the gains arrive in weeks rather than quarters, and they compound.
