We Are One Community Dinner
Why This Dinner Is Worth Your Friday Night
There's a certain kind of event that doesn't feel like work. The We Are One Community Dinner, hosted by Business Chamber South on Friday 21 August at Club Central Hurstville, is shaping up to be one of those nights.
It's a celebration of multiculturalism, social cohesion, and the role diversity plays in Australian business life — organised in partnership with the United Nations Association of Australia (NSW Division). The speaker lineup alone makes it worth showing up. NSW Premier Chris Minns is confirmed, alongside Dr Patricia Jenkings PhD from the United Nations Association of Australia (NSW), Reverend Bill Crews of the Rev. Bill Crews Foundation, and Adam Bujairami, founder of Bujairami Perfumes Sydney. Add a four-course dinner and cultural performances to that, and you've got an evening that's hard to dismiss.
Who Is Business Chamber South?
If you run a business in the St George or Bayside region and haven't come across Business Chamber South yet, you're missing a useful ally.
The Chamber grew out of the Hurstville Chamber of Commerce following the local government amalgamations of 2016 — expanding its reach rather than shrinking with the boundaries. It's led by local business owners from retail, manufacturing, professional services and more, which means the people running it actually understand what it's like to operate a small business in this part of Sydney. That's not always a given.
Their focus spans four areas: community activation, economic development, business support, and advocacy. Day to day, that translates to skills workshops, mental health support, helping members navigate government red tape, and making noise on behalf of local businesses at every level of government. One member put it simply: "They were able to cut through council red tape and really make things clear." Another said joining made them feel "much more connected to the business community."
The We Are One Community Dinner fits neatly within that mission. Because Business Chamber South has always understood that a strong local economy doesn't exist in isolation — it grows out of communities that actually know and trust each other.
What's In It for Small Business Owners?
Southern Sydney is one of the most multicultural parts of the country, and many of the businesses thriving here reflect exactly that. The connections formed across cultural lines — supplier relationships, referral networks, collaborative ventures — are part of what makes this region tick.
Events like this one give small business owners access to conversations they don't usually get to have. When a Premier, community leaders, and local operators are all in the same room, the dynamic shifts. Things get decided. Relationships start that go somewhere.
It's also just a good night out — and those matter too.
A Partner Worth Knowing
Business Chamber South is a community partner of The Business Show Australia, and it's a partnership that makes sense. Both organisations are in the business of helping SMEs grow — through connection, advocacy, and putting the right people in the same room.
If you've been looking for a reason to get more plugged into the southern Sydney business community, the We Are One Community Dinner is as good a starting point as any.
Doors open at 6:30pm on Friday 21 August 2026 at Club Central Hurstville, 2 Crofts Ave, Hurstville NSW 2220.
